Objectives: The DocStop für Europäer e.V. association was founded to improve medical care for professional truck drivers travelling throughout Europe.

DocStop is a service
without any obligation
for the - DocStop für Europäer e.V. - initiative.

Planned as a European pilot project, the founders want to make a contribution to road safety and creating a humane workplace for all professional truck drivers. A nationwide survey of the target group undertaken in advance showed that over 85% of drivers complained about inadequate medical care from their place of work. The project was founded to prevent serious traffic accidents from occurring due to driving with health problems and / or self-medication. The joint plans to establish the association and develop the project by the initiative's patron, EU parliamentarian Dr. Dieter Lebrecht Koch, and the initiator of DocStop, retired police commissioner Rainer Bernickel, started in 2007.

DocStop für Europäer e.V. was established according to the prescribed basic legal regulations and guidelines. All employees of DocStop für Europäer e.V. are volunteers working towards the implementation of the planned objectives within the set framework conditions. The association is registered in Weimar under the reference: VR 1117/2008 Tax number: 161/141/43514 The team from DocStop is making every effort alongside many competent partners to offer truck drivers medical support when travelling that is as targeted and easy to implement as possible. A variety of help and support is possible. If you would like to support DocStop für Europäer e.V. please contact us; we would be delighted to hear from you.

can be found at: We request interested doctors and hospitals to provide the help and support required. If you would like to help please contact us. We would like to explicitly thank all of our partners and supporters, without whose financial and intellectual support such a comprehensive project could not be realised.

As a result of the generous donations of industrial partners and the involvement of sponsoring members, the association has the finances required to implement its work. The question that currently arises time and again about COSTS should be settled in terms of the expected consequences or subsequent damages and implications clearly in favour of closing the gap in provision. In cases of doubt or for acute complaints the driver should find a doctor before starting the trip and if necessary receive a sick note as is common for all types of work. Abuse should not become the normal situation as otherwise the whole action would be placed in doubt. It is expressly stated that this initiative does not replace visiting your family doctor or consultant. We aim to provide medical care in acute cases when away from home.

Practical tips
Only a healthy driver is a safe driver and does not endanger themselves or other road users. The DocStop für Europäer e.V. initiative has acquired competent partners for all important processes. The ADAC Truck Service and their HOTLINE is a DocStop partner. All calls to the DocStop hotline, 01805 112 024, subject to charge are accepted in the service centre and the employees there can find the DocStop doctor and their telephone number nearest to the location of the caller. This means for truck drivers - short routes - quick connections - less time lost for schedule planning - best possible help - greater personal safety - health promotion. The ADAC service centre is open 24 hours a day. Those requesting help will be served in all European languages. A telephone call from a German landline costs €0.14 per minute. Calls from the networks of other providers may be charged at a different price.

Which other options do you have
The software from Map & Guide has integrated all of the addresses of the participating DocStop doctors and hospitals. A PDF file is available with the addresses of the doctors for download on the DocStop homepage.

What can I expect
Each registered doctors practice or hospital can be reached from the relevant DocStop location (service station or motorway exit), usually with a maximum distance of four kilometres. This shortens the routes and the time massively and we frequently list car parks close to the practice. All medics participating in the DocStop initiative have declared their willingness to treat drivers who come to their practices promptly without long waiting times.

Legal situation in Germany

§ 1 Basic rules
(1) Participation in road traffic requires constant caution and mutual respect.
(2) Each road user must behave such that no other person is injured, put at risk, hindered or harassed more than absolutely necessary in the circumstances.

§ 2 Driver's licence regulations
Paragraph 2 of the German driving licence regulations emphasises that anyone not able to take part in traffic safely as a result of physical and psychological problems may only take part in road traffic if he has undertaken precautions to ensure nobody else is put at risk.

Not complying with these regulations may, in the worst case, result in criminal law consequences depending on the facts. Current information on DocStop can be found at any time on our website and we respond to questions sent to
